How not to make friends?

May 19, 2005

Generally speaking, I am opposed to war and have question marks abound why the US (and allies) went into Iraq in the first place. However, now that there are international forces in Iraq, I am supportive of their goals of bringing peace to the country and helping Iraqis build their own country back again. I'm not supportive just because there are Japanese Self Defense Force personnel in country, but out of a genuine desire to see peace through out Asia and the World. Stories like this make me wonder if the US really shares the same desires.

The story concerns Operation Matador, last week's clash between U.S. forces and foreign jihadists in the desert villages of western Iraq. Officials have portrayed the operation as a grand success. Allam and Dulaimy depict it as a grave disaster.
