We have shut-ins in the U.S., but they are mainly old people that we have thrown away like a pack of used tissues. In Japan it seems the shut-ins, or hikikomori, are young men who cave to society's pressures and totally withdraw from the world at large, hardly ever leave their rooms. Apparently it is happening in large numbers with estimates ranging from 300,000 to 1 million. Dice, what's the skinny with this phenomenon?
