Fast Sinking Feeling

November 21, 2008

Seattle sports teams are sucking this year. Huskies Basketball are doing the best at .500, but that's one win and one loss.

<blockquote>Last weekend marked another low. The Mariners had yet to hire a new manager after their $118 million payroll bought the worst team in baseball. (They hired Don Wakamatsu on Wednesday.) The University of Washington football team was trampled by U.C.L.A., a squad led by the former Washington coach Rick Neuheisel, who has now won more games in Seattle this season than the Huskies.

The Seahawks have likely ceded the National Football Conference West to the Arizona Cardinals, ending their run of four division championships. And the Sonics? They are playing under their new name, the Thunder, in their new home, Oklahoma City.

"This is the worst sports scene in the history of sports scenes," said Brian Robinson, a real-estate investor who co-founded the group Save our Sonics. "There's no way to sugarcoat it."
