Down in the Holler

October 22, 2005

We went to ol' Kentucky last weekend to hang out with some EC friends (C's roomate Elizabeth and her hubby to be exact). We went down to the holler on Saturday for a farm party (her folks have some land southeast of Lexington where they keep bees and not much else). It was pretty cool, we ate pork tenderloin sengwhiches, grilled on the grandaddy of grills, drank plenty of Straub beer, and hung out with their family and friends. Corn hole, two hand touch, wiffle ball, a tour of the bee keeping situation, and an art contest--whereby we had to use found natural items to color a fall scene (C won)--rounded out the activities.

After a nice night around the fire (along with some makers mark) and sleeping outside in our tent, we finally got around to shooting a bb gun at a can in a tree the next morning. I eventually got the hang of it, but C was a pretty good shot right off the bat. I'm glad she'll be around should we ever live in a hurricane prone part of the country and looters try and get our house, or if we ever have to hunt for food again...
